Salisbury Cathedral is one of the world's finest medieval buildings (About 1220 to 1258). It has the UK's tallest spire (123m/404 feet) and largest Cloisters and Cathedral Close, the best preserved Magna Carta (1215) and Europe's oldest working clock. The Cathedral floats on 5 acres of lawn and is surrounded by historic buildings. The Close, which brings the country into the centre of the city, is still locked late every night as it has been for 700 years. Tours can be arranged every day - and include a trip up the tower and into the roof spaces.
